DROCHAID was born in the UK and purchased privately by Godolphin as a 3-year-old. He is sired by MASTERCRAFTSMAN (IRE) out of AVON LADY (GB) and commenced his racing career throughout the UK with great success. Imported to Australia for the 2018 racing carnivals, he concluded his 19-start racing career retiring with $157,172 in prizemoney.
Godolphin Kelvinside’s Spelling Manager, Olivia Hill, fell in love with DROCHAID’s quirky, and quite sassy personality the first day she met him. He loves being around people and reminded her of her first ever retired racehorse who was also sired by MASTERCRAFTSMAN (IRE).
Since retiring from Godolphin’s racing program in February 2019, DROCHAID has enjoyed a stress-free retirement with Olivia mostly swimming and playing in the local river. Now affectionately known as Droch, his main responsibilities have been teaching friends to ride and as a buddy to several horses that have recently retired, showing them the ropes of retirement life.
Whilst Droch loves his relaxed lifestyle on the farm, he is also a very talented show jumper. In September 2019 Droch was entered into Jump Off Series 2 with Olivia. At short notice Olivia was given approximately 10 weeks to retrain Droch to jump up to 1.1m for the Jump Off Series 2 qualifying round held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre. Whilst the duo didn’t make it into the Jump Off finals, Olivia was extremely happy with the way he performed on the day. “He is such an honest horse, and he continued to improve after each jump round.” said Olivia.
